IRSC Extends Winning Streak to 3

WINTER HAVEN, FL – Indian River improved its Citrus Conference winning streak to three games with a 91-73 victory Saturday on the road against Polk State College. The win follows consecutive victories over Hillsborough and St. Pete respectively. IRSC led wire to wire, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead though Polk State would fight back and keep the game very tight in the first half with IRSC taking a 41-36 lead into the intermission. However, the second half would be a different story. IRSC's stifling defense would propel them to a 50-37 second period, pushing them to the largest lead of 22 points.

"Winning on the road is always difficult, but winning there [Polk State College] is always a struggle. So for our guys to come out like that and put together a great performance in a tough environment is a testament to what we can be when we're really clicking," Coach Morosco said. There was a large home crowd presence as it was Polk County Student Appreciation day in the Eagles' Nest, as students from all over Polk County received free admission and free hot dogs at the game. "I thought in the second half our guys really made a commitment on the defensive end and to getting easier shots on offense, hopefully we can bottle that up and replicate it because that's what wins on the road," Coach Morosco continued. The win was IRSC's first Citrus Conference road victory of the season after stumbling earlier in the month.

IRSC was led by Mostapha El Moutaouakkil with 35 points and 12 rebounds and Mason Brown with 19 points. Jayshayne Woodard once again flirted with a triple-double totaling 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Next match is Wednesday, January 31st on the road against Florida Southwestern State College.
