Indian River Wins Second In a Row

Indian River Wins Second In a Row

FORT PIERCE, FL – You can't start a winning streak until you win a second game. The Pioneers were able to do just that with a victory Tuesday night against St. Petersburg College 100-92. The victory marks the second consecutive game in which IRSC has reached the 100 point mark after scoring 107 in Saturday's victory over Hillsborough. IRSC took a 45-38 into the halftime break before a high scoring second half erupted in which IRSC would outscore St. Pete by a narrow margin 55 to 54. The contest was IRSC's third game in six days.

"I knew our guys were going to be a little worn down having so many games in just a short time and playing a St. Pete team who always plays so hard and so physical was going to be a challenge," said Coach Bill Morosco. "Coach Crumley does such a great job getting his guys to play with maximum effort and that is something we struggled to match at times. Thankfully, when the game got tight and it was time to turn the switch 'on' we were able to but that's not a habit we want to build. We have to play with a higher motor from start to finish," Morosco continued.

IRSC was led by Jayshayne Woodard with a near triple double of 19 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Mostapha El Moutaouakkil added 31 points and 10 rebounds. Deng Majak posted 20 points and 12 rebounds and Mykol Sanchez scored 17 points on five 3's.

The Pioneers are on the road at Polk State in their next Citrus Conference match up Saturday, January 27th with a 2:00pm tip-off.
