Pioneers Stumble on the Road

Pioneers Stumble on the Road

MIAMI, FL – In the waning moments of a 91-92 game, IRSC saw it's chance for a victory and to draw back even in conference play quite literally slip through their hands. Three straight Pioneer turnovers late in the game sealed a victory for Miami Dade College who moves to 1-1 in Citrus Conference play while the 13-2 Pioneers fall to 0-2.

"[Miami Dade] is a very a tough and well coached team and they're extremely difficult to play against at home. We knew this was going to go down to the wire, I just wish we could have taken care of the ball better down the stretch. We made a lot of great plays defensively, and the guys played extremely hard battling injuries, foul trouble and a depleted roster. We had our chances to win and we just needed to take advantage of that," said IRSC Head Coach Bill Morosco.

The road does not get any easier for IRSC who start conference play with five of their first seven games on the road, with the next game being at #23 Eastern Florida.

"Absolutely no one is going to feel sorry for us. Number one, we have to use this bye weekend to get healthy. Then before we can get back to winning to we have to figure out how to stop beating ourselves. We have to be road warriors, come out an get a tough road win and build some positive momentum. Then, after that, we'll get 5 of 7 games at home to close out February," Coach Morosco continued.

IRSC was led by Mostapha El Moutaouakkil with 28 points and Mykol Sanchez who added 18 points. IRSC had 5 players reach double figures including a season high for sophomore Kyle Brown who scored 13 points.

The Pioneers face the Titans of Eastern Florida in Melbourne on Wednesday, January 17.
