Pioneers Drop First Contest of the Season

DAYTONA BEACH, FL– IRSC's bid for a perfect season came to an end Saturday afternoon with a 90-77 defeat on the road at #3 ranked Daytona State College. Saturday's matchup was a clash up unbeaten times with 13-0 IRSC facing 14-0 Daytona State. IRSC started the game off slowly allowing Daytona to build an early double digit cushion taking a 52-40 lead into the halftime break. The Falcons would eventually push the lead to 21 points before IRSC mounted a valiant comeback late in the second half behind their stifling defensive change that cut the lead into single digits. Unfortunately, Daytona never quite gave way and was able to close out a hard-fought victory. Fueled by 38 points off of 25 IRSC turnovers, Daytona was able to turn IRSC mistakes into their most effective offense.

"I think we had a lot of self-inflicted mistakes, give Daytona a ton of credit for putting us in those situations but a lot of their points came off of our turnovers, poor shot selection or missed rebounding assignments. But that's what good teams do. They make you pay for mistakes and that's a really, really good team, they're #3 in the nation for a reason. You can't make those mistakes against them and expect to win," Coach Bill Morosco said. "But the good thing is, when most of what happened when your doing, it's something we have 100% control over fixing. So we can fix it and keep improving as the season goes on," Morosco continued.

IRSC was led by Mason Brown with 19 points, Mykol Sanchez added 17 points and Deng Majak contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds.

In the NJCAA National Poll IRSC only fell 1 spot to #21 in the Nation.
