El Moutaouakkil named NJCAA National Player of the Week
IRSC Men's Basketball player Mostapha El Moutaouakkil was named this week's Men's Basketball NJCAA Division I Player of the Week. The sophomore guard from Morocco is coming off of a week in which he averaged over 30 points per game, totaled 92 points in 3 games and 19 rebounds over the same span. In his first game against Time to Ball Prep, El Moutaouakkil totaled 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in just 19 minutes. In game two of the week on the road against Spartanburg Methodist College, El Moutaouakkil totaled 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in only 25 minutes. But the highlight of the week came in game three against Caldwell Tech in Spartanburg, SC where El Moutaouakkil set a career high with 58 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in 39 minutes. The 58 points scored is the 3rd highest scoring total in IRSC history.
Coach Morosco on the accomplishment: "We are very happy for Mo and are proud of his accomplishment. He has worked harder than anyone to develop his game from year to the next and he is a testament to trusting the process from growing from limited minutes as a freshman to one of the very best players in the nation as a sophomore. But the beautiful thing about this game is that all individual awards are really team awards, if we don't win these three games, he probably doesn't win this award so give credit to the entire team for find a way to win on a very difficult road trip to the Carolinas."
El Moutaouakkil is Coach Morosco's 3rd National Player of the Week award recipient following Guard Tone Hunter who won the award twice at Garden City Community College in 2021-22.
