The Winning Streak Continues

The Winning Streak Continues

After a long trip to Spartanburg, SC the IRSC Men's Basketball team returned to Ft. Pierce, unscathed with a perfect 9-0 record.

In game one of the Spartanburg Methodist College Thanksgiving Classic IRSC took on the host team Spartanburg Methodist College in this true road test. The Pioneers would end up holding on to a 94-87 victory after a late charge from talented SMC team with several D1 recruits in their lineup. The Pioneers were led by Jayshayne Woodard with 27 Points, 13 Rebounds ad 7 assists.

Coach Morosco after the game: "Road Games are always tough to win. Our guys battled through a ton of adversity whether it was foul trouble, the opposing crowd or some bad breaks late but they found a way to win and that's what good teams do. Give SMC a lot of credit, they never quit and fought hard to the very end."

The second game of the SMC Classic was a battle of the unbeatens pitting 8-0 IRSC against 5-0 Caldwell Tech who represented Region 10 in the National Tournament just two years ago. Again the Pioneers overcame adversity, foul trouble and a late-charging opponent to hold on to a high scoring 126-120 victory. The Pioneers were led by an outstanding performance by Sophomore Mostapha El Moutaouakkil who poured in a whopping 58 points along with 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.

Coach Morosco after the game: "We easily could have folded in this game. Key players left the game with foul trouble and a very talented team was making a huge run and gave us everything they had. Credit to our bench for stepping up in a big way in the clutch when we needed it and to Mo for taking over late after Jay had fouled up. I'm very proud of our group staying together when things got tough and finding a way to win."
