#2 Pioneers Win At Home Against Miami Dade

Fort Pierce, Florida – There was no let down for the #2 ranked Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team as they defeated Miami Dade College, 81-54.  Coming off their overtime win against #12 Florida Southwestern College, there is always a chance for a slight let down, but IRSC came out with energy and never slowed as they increased their overall record to 22-2 and 7-0 in the Southern Conference.

Miami Dade caused some problems for the Pioneers in the first meeting of the two teams with A.J. Cajuste scoring with 2.2 seconds remaining to give IRSC a 72-70 victory.  This game was much different with the Pioneers holding a 43-26 advantage at the half.  The pace continued in the second half and the lead grew to 20 points when Tyeree Bryan scored on a nice drive to the basket making the score 49-29 with 17 minutes left in regulation.  The lead swelled to 30 points when Doug Young hit a tough lay-up with just under six minutes remaining 72-42.  Everyone who dressed for the game saw action and all 11 members got into the scoring column.

Leading the way for IRSC was Bendji Pierre who scored 18 points on the night and pulled in nine rebounds followed by Bryan, who had another solid performance with 17 points on 6-8 shooting from the field and 2-3 from the three-point line and Cajuste added 13 points and dished out 8 assists.

The Pioneers have a big Southern Conference match-up on Monday February 7th when they take on Florida Southwestern College on the Massey Campus in Fort Pierce, Florida.  This is a make-up game due to Florida Southwestern being unable to play earlier in the season due to Covid Protocol.  The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
