Pioneers Lose To Polk State On A Last Second Shot

Fort Pierce, Florida – Polk State College hit a big two-point basket with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game to give the #6 ranked Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Team their second loss of the season.  The Pioneers took an early 9-5 lead on a Kyle Feit three-point shot, but Polk State went on a 6-2 run tying the game at 11.  The first half remained close before Polk State closed out the half with a 42-36 advantage.

Tyerre Bryan pulled IRSC back to within one in the second half, when he stole the inbounds pass, scored the layup and was fouled.  He converted the free-throw making the score 49-48.  The Pioneers tied the score a couple of times but could never take the lead.  Polk pushed the lead to nine, 77-68, before IRSC made one final run.  The Pioneers forced a couple of turnovers and knotted the score at 84 when A.J. Cajuste drove down the lane for a tough layup with just 12.4 seconds remaining.  Polk State had one more chance to get the win and hit a tough pullup jumper with 1.2 seconds left to give them the lead.  Cajuste last-second heave was short and Polk State took the win, 86-84.

The loss dropped the Pioneers record to 12-2 with two home games remaining before the semester break.  Top scorers on the night for IRSC were Cajuste 25, Jacob Tracey with 19, and Feit added 16 points.
