#17 IRSC Men Are Southern Conference Champions

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team cut down the nets in celebratory fashion as they won the Southern Conference with a convincing win over Miami-Dade College 121-93.

Jacob Jackson started the Pioneers early by scoring 11 of the first 13 points and Abdoulaye Thiam slammed home an alley-oop pass from Antrell Charlton pushing the lead to 34-18 with 10 minutes remaining.  IRSC was relentless pushing the ball in transition and went into the half with a 63-41 advantage.

The second half saw much of the same from Pioneers as the lead increased to 30 points, 81-50 when Linton Brown connected from beyond the three-point line, one of IRSC's 14 threes on the night.  Miami-Dade continued to score but could not slow down IRSC as they went on to their 16th victory of the season with a 121-93 victory.  Scoring leaders for the night were Brown 24, Thiam 23, Jackson 16, Charlton 15, Bryce Fitzgerald 13, and Tanahj Pettway tossed in 11 points.  Charlton recorded his first career triple double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.

It was also "Sophomore Night" for IRSC, recognizing seven upper classmen (Charlton, A.J. Cajuste, Fitzgerald, Brandon Gainey, Jackson, Pettway, and Brown) for their contributions to the program.  "I'm so proud of these young men and their accomplishments, they have raised our program to new levels", stated IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson.  Brown, Pettway, Charlton, and Cajuste have won back-to-back Southern Conference Titles and have a conference record of 21-3 in their two years at "The River".

The win moved IRSC's record to 16-2 as they will turn their focus to the Florida College System Activities Association State Tournament which will be held in Niceville, Florida, on the Campus of Northwest Florida April 7th-10th.  Pairings and game times for the tournament will be announced later this week.
