#23 IRSC Men Win Against Miami Dade College

Miami, Florida – A big scoring output helped the number 23rd nationally ranked Pioneers defeat Miami Dade College, 95-89 for the 12th win of the season.  The Indian River State College Men's Basketball Team reentered the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Poll at 23rd this week.  They had been ranked as high as #16 earlier in this Covid shortened season.

The first half saw several lead changes with Miami Dade holding a four-point advantage with under 50 seconds to go in the half before Linton Brown started to get things going.  He scored on a nifty reverse lay-up with 43 seconds, blocked a shot on the defensive end, and hit a long three-point basket at the buzzer to close out the half giving IRSC the lead, 48-46.

It didn't take Miami Dade long to get back on top as they hit a three to start the second half.  The game was tight until the 10-minute mark when IRSC went on a 7-0 run capped off by A.J. Cause scoring on a driving lay-up making the score 76-64.  Miami Dade cut the margin to under 10 several times but could not retake the lead as the Pioneers went on to a 95-89 victory.

Brown had a big afternoon for IRSC scoring a career high 31 points while connecting on seven three-point baskets, Cajuste also had a career high 21 points, followed by Abdoulaye Thiam with 14 including four three-point baskets in the first half.  The win increases the Pioneers record to 12-2 on the season, with only four games remaining.  IRSC will travel to Palm Beach State on Wednesday, March 17th, for a 7:30 p.m. start.
