Pioneers Defeat Miami Dade

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team came away with an important Southern Conference victory on Saturday, by defeating Miami Dade College 83-75.  The Pioneers built a nine-point advantage when Tanahj Pettway drilled a three-point shot making the score 37-28, but IRSC could not pull away and Miami Dade pulled to within six points at half, 42-36.

Miami Dade continued to fight their way back into the ballgame, and tied the score at 58. The eventually took the lead with just under five minutes remaining in the game, 71-70.  IRSC showed some determination and regained the lead for good on a strong drive to the basket by Antrell Charlton, making the score 74-73.  Two key defensive stops and two more clutch baskets by Charlton, helped the Pioneers increase their Southern Conference record to 3-1.  The 83-75 win moved their over-all record to 8-1.  "This team seems to always find a way to get things done at the end of the game when it counts", state IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson.

Leading scores for the Pioneers were Charlton 22, Linton Brown 18, and Abdoulaye Thiam 13 and Mark-Anthony McReed and Jacob Jackson both added 10 points.  IRSC will take on Palm Beach State College at home on Wednesday, February 24th, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
