Pioneer Men Move to 6-0, Ranked 16th Nationally

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team increased their record to 6-0 and 2-0 in the Southern Conference with a win over State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, 75-64.  The score remained close in the early portion of the game before IRSC went on an 8-0 run, finished off by a Mark-Anthony McReed offensive tip-in making the score 32-25.  State College of Florida found themselves in foul trouble and the Pioneers went into the half with a 13-point advantage.

IRSC built up a 21-point lead, but State College of Florida continued to take the ball to the basket and cut the margin to 11.  A couple of key offensive rebounds and made free-throws in the final minutes sealed the 75-64 victory.  The Pioneers didn't shoot the ball particularly well, only shooting 41% overall from the field and converted a season low 4-20 from the three-point line.  IRSC had a balanced scoring attack with Antrell Charlton 17 points, followed by Abdoulaye Thiam and Linton Brown 14, and Tanahj Pettway added 12 points for the cause.  Jacob Jackson had a big night on the glass pulling in a game high 13 rebounds.

Pioneers have a big game on Saturday, February 13th when they travel to Fort Meyers, Florida, to take on Florida Southwestern.  IRSC is ranked 16th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Men's Basketball Poll and Florida Southwestern is ranked one spot ahead at #15.  The game will tip-off at 12 noon.
