Pioneer Men Move to 6-0, Ranked 16th Nationally

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team increased their record to 6-0 and 2-0 in the Southern Conference with a win over State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, 75-64.  The score remained close in the early portion of the game before IRSC went on an 8-0 run, finished off by a Mark-Anthony McReed offensive tip-in making the score 32-25.  State College of Florida found themselves in foul trouble and the Pioneers went into the half with a 13-point advantage. 

IRSC built up a 21-point lead, but State College of Florida continued to take the ball to the basket and cut the margin to 11.  A couple of key offensive rebounds and made free-throws in the final minutes sealed the 75-64 victory.  The Pioneers didn't shoot the ball particularly well, only shooting 41% overall from the field and converted a season low 4-20 from the three-point line.  IRSC had a balanced scoring attack with Antrell Charlton 17 points, followed by Abdoulaye Thiam and Linton Brown 14, and Tanahj Pettway added 12 points for the cause.  Jacob Jackson had a big night on the glass pulling in a game high 13 rebounds. 

Pioneers have a big game on Saturday, February 13^th when they travel to Fort Meyers, Florida, to take on Florida Southwestern.  IRSC is ranked 16^th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Men's Basketball Poll and Florida Southwestern is ranked one spot ahead at #15.  The game will tip-off at 12 noon.
