IRSC Men Beat State College Of Florida At Jacksonville

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team closed out the first semester in a big way with an 86-79 win over State College of Florida at Jacksonville. They were defeated by Jacksonville earlier in the year, 70-67.  It was the Pioneers' sixth win in a row and pushed their record to 10-6 overall.

The game saw several lead changes in the first half, with IRSC taking a one-point advantage into the half, 40-39.  No team could gain a sizable lead, until Jai Clark a hit three-point basket, giving the Pioneers a four-point advantage.  IRSC turned up the defense and forced Jacksonville into several turnovers (18 total for the game) and build a double-digit lead.  Tanahj Pettway connected on a three-point basket making the score 79-66.  Jacksonville went on a 10-0 run and cut the lead to 3, with just over a minute remaining, 79-76.  Miles Coleman drove baseline and hit a big pull-up jumper and was fouled.  He converted the free-throw and pushed the score to 82-76.  IRSC was able to get two defensive stops and forced Jacksonville to foul.  The Pioneers converted their free-throws and went on to win, 86-79.  Scoring leaders were Coleman 15, Pettway 14, Drew LaMont 12, Linton Brown 11, and Jai Clark added 10 points.

At one point, IRSC's record was 4-6, but have really turned things around, going on a six-game winning streak and also defeating two national ranked teams.  "I'm proud of this group, we continue to find different ways to win games," stated IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson.  The Pioneers return to action with a home contest in Fort Pierce against Florida National University JV.  The game will start at 3 p.m.
