Pioneers Move Season Record To 15-4 With 99-80 Victory Over ASA

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Pioneers continued their winning ways on Wednesday night as the defeated ASA (Miami) for their 15th win on the season, 99-80. The game was not as close as the final score might indicate, with Indian River State College (IRSC) building a 30 point lead several times in the second half.

ASA took an early 7-5 lead to start the game, before IRSC went on an 11-0 run to make the score 16-7 with 13:43 remaining in the first half. The Pioneers went into the half with a 46-27 advantage. IRSC came out on fire in the second half and increased the lead to 31 points with 13:37 to go, 60-29. With 4:58 remaining on the clock, Chris McCray drove baseline for an easy two points, keeping the lead at 30, 85-55. ASA made a late surge and cut the lead to 99-80 as time expired.

Kimani Binder had another outstanding performance for the Pioneers scoring 35 points and pulling in 8 rebounds. Charlie Daniels continued to take care of business underneath the basket as he tallied 14 points and 8 rebounds. IRSC got good contributions from the bench with three players scoring in double figures, Jai Clark 17 points (4 3-point field goals), Micah Johnson and Chris McCray both added 10.

The Pioneers increased their overall record to 15-4 and 2-0 in the Southern Conference. They are currently ranked 6th in the latest NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll. They will be in action on Friday January 18, at Fort Pierce, Florida when they take on Florida National University JV with a 5:30 pm start.
