IRSC Men Defeat Palm Beach For First Conference Win

Lake Worth, Florida-It was a good start to the conference season for the Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team on Saturday as they defeated Palm Beach State College 87-63.  IRSC moved their overall record to 14-4 and 1-0 in the conference. 

The Pioneers took the early 9-4 lead in the game, but Palm Beach regained the lead 25-24 with 6:15 left the first half.  The lead seesawed back and forth before IRSC went on a 12-0 run to close out the half. 

Palm Beach made several runs in the second half, but were never able to regain the lead.  "Our guys did a solid job on defense and didn't panic when Palm Beach made a run," commented IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson. 

The Pioneers shot 52% from the field and 47% from the 3-point line.  Kimani Binder filled the stat line with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. IRSC got a big lift from their inside duo of Charlie Daniels and DeJuan Lockett who combined for 38 points and 16 rebounds.  Jai Clark chipped in 4 timely 3-pointers for 12 points and Eddie Williams came off the bench to pull in a team high 9 rebounds. 

D.J. Winston ran the offense for the majority of the game and dished out 6 assists and only had 3 turnovers for the contest.

The Pioneers will be in action at IRSC on Wednesday January 16th when they take on ASA in Fort Pierce, Florida.   The conference match up will begin at 7:30 p.m
