Indian River Men’s Basketball Team Receive Post Season Honors

The Region 8 Southern Conference unveiled the men's basketball All-Conference team for the 2016-17 season.  The Pioneers landed 5 members on the team which included Willy Nunez (Orlando, FL), Shaun Willett (Palm Bay, FL), Elijah Farley (Orlando, FL), Andrew Anderson (Brampton, FL), and Joshua Oliver (Jacksonville, FL).

 Willy Nunez, 6'6" shooting guard, was voted to the first team and came in in second in the M.V.P. voting.  He was also selected for the Region 8 All-State team which is selected from the 20 Division I junior colleges in Florida.  Nunez average 20.8 points per game for a season total of 602 points and a career mark of 895 points.  He not only put points on the scoreboard by also grabbed 5.5 rebounds per game and dished out 3 assists per contest.  Nunez, known for his shooting range, netted 113 three pointers this season and accumulated a two year total of 187 made three pointers for his career.

Shaun Willett, 6'4" guard, joined Nunez as a first team selection.  Willett, an Alcorn State transfer, was the Pioneers second leading scorer and second leading rebounder. He averaged 13.5 points per game and also collected 6.2 rebounds.  Not only was Willett a top scorer, but he was also one of the leagues toughest defenders holding many of the conference's top offensive threats below their season averages. 

Elijah Farley, 5'8" point guard, was the first selection to the all-conference second team.  Farley handled the majority of the ball handling responsibilities for IRSC and had several games where he played the complete 40 minutes.  He led the State of Florida in assists with a 6.6 average and a remarkable 191 assists for the year.  He also scored 8.5 points per game and scored in double figures 12 times for the Pioneers. 

Andrew Anderson, 6'6" power forward and leading rebounder for the River, was also a member of the all-conference second team.  Anderson was a consistent spark off the bench averaging 9.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.  He concluded his Indian River career with 520 points and 365 rebounds.  Anderson led Region 8 in field goal percentage as a freshmen and shot 58.2% over the two years he played for the Pioneers.

Joshua Oliver, 6'8" power forward, was the final member of IRSC men's team to receive post season honors by being selected to the 2nd team.  Oliver averaged 7.9 points per game and shot 59% from the field.  He pulled in 121 rebounds for a 4.5 average and dished out 33 assists.  Oliver was a standout defensive player and rim protector in his two years at Indian River State College.

 

"These young men were the foundation of our team and were a big reason for our success," stated Coach Wilson.  The Pioneers finished the season with 17 wins and tied for third in the Southern Conference.
