FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River took both games against Seminole State College on Saturday, March 22 improving to 24-7 overall and securing their spot atop the Citrus Conference standings at 14-4.
The first game of the doubleheader ended in dramatic fashion as Indian River came from behind to walk off Seminole State, 4-3, in eight innings. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, freshman Sean Duffin delivered a walk-off single, driving in two runs to secure the win. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with Indian River overcoming deficits three different times to ultimately claim victory.
Sammy Beir earned the win in relief, throwing 1 1/3 innings and improving his record to 4-0. Freshman Shane Lavin started on the mound for The River, striking out nine and allowing just one earned run over 6 2/3 innings. Indian River tallied nine hits in the game. Duffin led the team with two RBIs, while Shawn Andrade, Maikol Lucena, and Matty Davis each contributed two hits.
Indian River completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory in seven innings. The River took the lead in the fourth after Jake Weatherspoon singled to center and Shawn Andrade doubled to right field. Freshman Jonathan Wolaver earned the win, allowing two hits and two runs over four innings. Andris Barroso and Justin Minaberry each pitched scoreless innings in relief. The River racked up 11 hits in the game. Maikol Lucena, Scout Simpson, and Jake Weatherspoon each collected two hits, with Weatherspoon leading the team with two RBIs.
Indian River will be back at home on Tuesday, March 25 at 3 p.m. as they take on Lake-Sumter.
