Indian River Struggles at Home

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College dropped a non-conference game to Polk State, 8-1, on Tuesday night. The Pioneers fall to 12-6 and have lost three in a row.
Polk State jumped out to a lead in the top of the first, scoring three runs, and followed that up with another two in the second. The Pioneers' pitching staff held Polk to only three runs for the remainder of the game after the early scoring.
Dane Rossi threw three innings in relief for the Pioneers. The freshman didn't give up any hits and allowed only one run while striking out four. Four different Pioneers took the mound, combining for ten strikeouts over the nine-inning game. Walks became an issue for the Pioneers, as they walked twelve batters and hit four, leading to Polk State's eight runs.
The Pioneers struggled offensively for the third game in a row, collecting only four hits and scoring one run. Jason Lashley had a double and drove in a run with a sac fly in the fourth inning. Sophomores Matt Lashley, Brett Patten, and Rocco Depastino each collected a hit as well.
Indian River will be back at home this Thursday, February 27 as they take on Santa Fe in Citrus Conference action.
