Pioneers Win On The Road

OCALA, FL - Indian River takes game one in Ocala, against Central Florida 7-3. This road victory improves the Pioneers record to 23-8 in Citrus Conference play and 36-11 overall. Indian River will be looking to lock up the Citrus Conference Saturday with just one win.

The Pioneers jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning after Vincent Samuel singled, scoring a run and AJ Hunerberg homered to left driving in three. Angelo Smith got the start for Indian River and earned his sixth win. The right-hander allowed only five hits and no runs over five innings, striking out seven. Chris Knier finished the game adding to his Fireman of the year campaign. The Freshmen allowed three hits over four innings striking out five. Matt Lashley led the Pioneers with two hits out of the nine-hole in the order while the team as a whole collected 16 total bases.

The Pioneers will host the former National Champions this Saturday, April 27, as they look to make history as the first ever Citrus Conference Champions.
