Big Day Propels Indian River Past HCC

FORT PIERCE, FL- Jacob Weatherspoon's walk-off grand slam propelled Indian River past Hillsborough Community College 14-3 on Thursday, April 18th. The Pioneers improve to 32-11 overall and 20-8 in Citrus Conference play.

Angelo Smith earned his fifth win for the Pioneers on Thursday, going the distance as the game was ended early due to the run rule. Smith pitched six innings, striking out four and walking none in the winning effort. Indian River's offense was firing on all cylinders as they collected eleven hits and did not strike out once during the game. Sophomores Jassel Valbuena, Matt Rubin, and Vincent Samuel each had two hits in the game. The high school teammates also combined to drive in four runs.

The Pioneers will travel to Tampa for two games on Friday, April 19th. Tampa natives CJ Hanson and Jace Trautner will start both games for Indian River.
