River Splits Doubleheader on Saturday

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River splits on Saturday 3-0 loss in game one and 5-6 win in game two. The Pioneers improve to 31-11 overall and 19-8 in Citrus Conference play.

For the first time all year the Pioneers were shutout 3-0 in game one to Miami-Dade. The offence struggled to get going only having three hits and leaving nine guys on base. Sophomore CJ Hanson took the loss for the Pioneers which was his first of the year. Hanson went six innings only allowing five hits striking out seven while Sammy Beir finished the game striking out two.

Game two

When game two rolled around, the River looked to bounce back and clinch the series. Cade Drohan started for Indian River striking out four over 2 2/3 innings of work. Chris Knier and Justin Minaberry finished the game for Indian River combined for 6 1/3 innings, seven strikeouts and not giving up an earned run. The offence combined for 11 hits lead by Jassiel Valbuena that had two with a big RBI single that brought in two late. The Pioneers were able to boune back and win the series 6-5 over Miami-Dade.

The Pioneers look to lock up a playoff spot this week as they host Hillsborough this Thursday, April 18th, at home. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.The game against Hillsborough is only one of three more home match-ups for the Pioneers.
