Indian River Splits on the Road

BRADENTON, FL - Indian River splits the double header on Saturday against State College of Florida. Game one was won 3-2 while game two was lost in extra innings 5-6. The Pioneers leave Bradenton 29-10 overall and 17-7 in Citrus Conference play.  

In game one Indian River beat State College of Florida 3-2 after taking the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Freshman Brett Patten hit his sixth homerun of the year with the game tied 2-2 in to help the Pioneers win. CJ Hanson started for Indian River going five and two thirds innings only allowing two runs while striking out three and Chris Knier got his sixth win of the year closing out the game. Jake Weatherspoon lead the Pioneers with two RBIS and Vincent Samuel added two hits and scored a run in the winning effort.

With high energy and a the goal of winning the series within reach, game two begins. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead the Pioneers offence was kept quiet untill the seventh and eighth inning where the Manatees tacked on runs to tie the game. Pioneers ultimately fell short losing 6-5 in extra innings. Four different Indian River arms threw in this game lead by Cade Drohan throwing five innings striking out three and Justin Minaberry striking out six in his 2 1/3 innings of work. Matt Rubin led the team in hits with three on the day.

Indian River will look to bounce back this Thursday, April 11, as they take on conference rival Miami-Dade on the road to open up the Citrus Conference series.
