Pioneers Drop One Late

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River stayed in it until the end, but State College of Florida (SCF) pulled away late to get the win 6-4. The Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Daniel Baez tripled, scoring two runs, and Matthew Rubin hit a sacrifice fly scoring one run. Runs scored in the eighth and ninth inning by SCF was the difference in the game. This drops Indian River to 28-9 overall and 16-6 in the Citrus Conference.

Sophomore Angelo Smith had his longest outing of the year going six innings only allowing three hits and striking out eight. Freshman Chris Knier threw two innings of relief and Sammy Beir finished the game for the Pioneers. Six different Pioneers recorded hits lead by Sophomore Danny Baez with two both being extra base hits.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back Saturday, April 6, as they travel to Bradenton for the final two games of the series.
