Pioneers Take The Series

FORT PIERCE, FL - After a tough loss in Winter Haven just two days prior, the Pioneers hosted Polk State for games two and three of the three game Citrus Conference series.

The Pioneers took game one with a score of 8-2. A huge six-run third inning ended up being the difference in the winning effort. The offense got going with Vincent Samuel's home run and sophomore bats Diego Alana, Danny Baez and Matt Rubin all had multiple hits to add to the lead. CJ Hanson got the start getting his fifth win of the year also collecting his second complete game on the season. Hanson threw seven innings striking out four only allowing five baserunners the entire game.

Indian River then took game three 5-2. The Pioneers, with the game tied 1-1, scored three in the bottom of the seventh inning and added another insurance run in the eighth inning to make up the final score. Big at bats by Baez, Brett Patten and AJ Hunerburg which all resulted in big RBI's in the team win. Cade Drohan got the start on the mound going five innings not giving up an earned run while striking out four. Freshman Chris Knier continued his great run out of the bullpen picking up his fifth win. The freshman threw four innings striking out six and only giving up one run.

Indian River wins both games on Saturday against Polk State to take the series. This was a bounce back performance for the Pioneers as they dropped the first game of the series on Thursday. The Pioneers move to 26-10 overall and 14-7 in Citrus Conference play. This doubleheader keeps Indian River a game and half back of first place. The Pioneers will be back in action Thursday, Apil 4, at home as the host State College of Florida in Citrus Conference play.
