Pioneers Split on the Road

SANFORD, FL - Indian River split the double header on the road Sunday against Seminole State. Game one was a 10-1 loss for the Pioneers but a bounce back performance in game two winning 7-2. Indian River record improves to 23-9 overall and 12-6 in Citrus Conference play which has them sitting atop the standings a half game back from FSW.

Game one of the double-header was very similar to the previous Thursday night match up against Seminole. The Pioneers got down early and were not able to keep up offensively. CJ Hanson started for the Pioneers having his shortest outing of the year getting his first loss. Raul Feliz led the offense with two hits and Vincent Samuel drove in the loan RBI for the Pioneers. Jace Trautner was a bright spot for the pitching staff throwing three scoreless innings in relief holding the Raiders to only two hits and striking out three.

Game two was a much-needed bounce back performance for win a 7-2 win. Cade Drohan went five innings striking out five only walking one in his outing getting the no decision. Freshman Chris Knier finished the game going four innings striking out four, allowing one hit securing his fifth win of the year. Sophomore hitters Vincent Samuel, Matt Rubin, and Danny Baez all had huge at bats for the Pioneers driving in two RBIs each.

The Pioneers will be back in action in non-conference action against Florida Southwestern on the road in Fort Myers this Tuesday, March 26.
