Indian River Sweeps Eastern Florida

MELBOURNE, FL - Indian River State College sweeps Eastern Florida State on the road Saturday winning both games 9-4 and 10-4. This is the second sweep of the year for the Pioneers as they bounce back from a losing back to back series to Florida Southwestern and Santa Fe.

In game one the Pioneers defeated the Titans 9-4. Freshman Chris Knier gets the first start of his college career for the Pioneers. Knier has been throwing for the Pioneers this year as a reliver but Head Coach Frank Torre decides to give Knier the start. In his debut, Knier went 6 1/3 innings striking out seven until freshman teammate Justin Minaberry came in to get the last two outs and finish the game. The offensive was quite early but from the fourth inning on the Pioneers tacked on nine runs and collected 10 hits including three doubles to put this game out of reach.

Game two Sophomore Cade Drohan gets the nod as Indian River wins 10-4 completing the sweep. Drohan scattered six hits and three runs over four innings of work. He handed the ball of to freshman sidewinder Andris Barrorso who went 2 2/3 inning only allowing one hit. Sammy Beir would finish the last 2 1/3 of an inning to get his first save of the year. Offence had another slow start down by one in the fourth the Pioneers scored four and never looking back scoring another six later in the game. Danny Baez had three doubles and Vincent Samuel and Mathew Rubin both hit long balls.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday, March 12, at home with non-conference action against nationally ranked Florida Southwestern.
