Indian River Takes Game One Against Eastern

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River beats Eastern Florida 4-1 in game one on Thursday night. The Pioneers improve to 6-4 in Citrus Conference play and look to take the series on Saturday. The pitching staff for Indian River continues to limit damage as two Pioneers combined to strike out nine and only allow one earned run.

Freshman Lucas Glendinning stepped on the mound for his sixth start of the year. Glendinning went five innings striking out two while only giving up five hits. Angelo Smith makes his third appearance out of the bullpen for the Pioneers getting his first save of the year. Smith, a University of Central Florida commit, strikes out seven of the 17 batters he faced.

Timely hitting for Indian River seemed to be the difference in the game. Big at bats from AJ Hunerburg and Matthew Lashley as they had the only RBI's for the Pioneers. The offence sprayed five hits over the nine-inning game including two doubles from Vincent Samuel and Matt Lashley.

Indian River will travel to Eastern Florida Saturday, March 9, and will look to secure the series as they try to separate themselves from the pack in the Citrus Conference.
