Pioneers Bounce Back in Game Two but Fall Short in Game Three

FORT PIERCE, FL - After dropping the first game in the three game series on Thursday, the Pioneers look to get the next two and win out the series. Game two was just what the Pioneers hoped for, Indian River bounced back in a big way beating Santa Fe 6-1. After scoring one run in the first inning the Pioneers scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead. With the win the series is tied up going into game three for a winner takes all matchup.

Sophomore CJ Hanson started on the mound for Indian River collecting his third win of the year. The University of Central Florida commit surrendered four hits and one run over six innings striking out two. Angelo Smith finished the game for the Pioneers throwing one scoreless and striking out two.

Indian River bats accumulated ten hits in the game with freshman Jake Weatherspoon and Brett Patten both getting two hits each. Patten hit his third home run of the season while Weatherspoon knocked in two runs.

In Game three the Pioneers look to keep the momentum, Redshirt Sophomore Cade Drohan will get the start for Indian River. Despite a four-run deficit in the sixth inning, Indian Rivers come back. However, they ultimately fell short losing 6-5 to Santa Fe. Indian River had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn't scratch across another run. This is will bring the Indian Rivers record to 5-4 in Citrus Conference play and 13-7 overall.

Drohan made his fifth start of the year for Indian River going three innings striking out two in six innings of relief. Diego Alana, Matthew Rubin, and Maikol Lucena all collected two hits for the Pioneers. The offensive as a whole had eight hits driving in four and walking ten.

Indian River's next game will be a non-conference match up at home Tuesday, March 5, against Florida Southwestern before restarting Citrus Conference play Thursday against Eastern Florida.
