Pioneers Shutout Polk

Pioneers Shutout Polk

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Indian River defeated Polk State 10-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday night. The bounce back performance for Indian River was much needed after dropping the series over the weekend against Florida Southwestern and serves as good momentum heading into another tough Citrus Conference week with the series match up against Santa Fe.

The Pioneers used five pitchers to combine for the teams third shutout of the year. Sophomore Jace Truatner gets his first start and win on the year going three innings only surrendering one hit while striking out one. The Pioneers pitching staff combined to only give up four hits and striking out 10 over nine innings of work. Indian River's earned run average has gone down to a 3.53 which is currently fifth best in the state of Florida.

Indian Rivers offense put up sixteen hits lead by sophomore AJ Hunerburg leading the team with five. Six different Pioneers had RBIs in the game, Vincent Samuel and AJ Hunerburg both contributed two a piece. Another good offensive game from the Pioneers has their team batting average up to .339 which is currently second best in the state of Florida.

The series against Santa Fe kicks off on the road Thursday, February 29.
