Pioneers Split At Home Against FSW

FORT PIERCE, FL - The Indian River State Pioneers split the double header with Florida Southwestern. Pioneers fall to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in Citrus Conference play.

The first game of the double header the Pioneers won in dramatic fashion, with a 3-2 walk-off victory. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Vincent Samuel hit a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning. CJ Hanson took the Pioneers into the seventh inning his longest outing of the year and Sammy Beir finished the inning securing his second win of the year. Diego Alana had two hits and Brett Patten drove in one.

Game two of the double header was another pitching duel but the Pioneers lose late 6-3. The top of the ninth FSW broke the tie at 3-3. Cade Drohan was on the bump for the Pioneers going five innings only giving up two runs and striking out four. Michael Malone and Sammy Beir finished the game for Indian River striking out five over the last four innings of the game. Raul Feliz and and Matt Rubin each drove in a run while Alana and Maikol Lucene each had two hits.

Indian River travels to Polk State College for a non-conference match up Tuesday, February 27.
