Pioneers Win Two to Sweep Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Indian River State College takes two from Daytona State on Friday for their first sweep of the year. The Pioneers move to 3-0 in Citrus Conference play and 10-3 overall while extending thier win streak to ten games. The Pioneers scored 35 runs on the weekend while only giving up nine runs.

Game One

CJ Hanson struck out 10 batters over five innings as the sophomore left-hander led the Pioneers past Daytona State 6-4 in game one. Freshman Michael Malone and Chris Knier finished the game only giving up two hits striking out three in the last two innings of the game. Knier got the first save of his college career. With the game being tied 2-2 in the fourth inning, freshman Jake Weatherspoon hit a double that put Indian River ahead adding insurance runs later with RBI singles from freshman Brett Patten and sophomore Raul Feliz. The Pioneers piled up ten hits in the game as Patten and sophomore Danny Baez each collected two hits for Indian River.

Game Two

Sophomore Cade Drohan earned the win for Indian River throwing a complete game as the Pioneers sweep Daytona State 10-0. The Virginia Tech commit only allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out two and walking none. Indian River collected 11 hits in the game and sophomore Vincent Samuel lead the Pioneers with three runs batted in. Indian River jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning after freshman Jason Lashley grounded out, scoring one and Samuel singled adding two more runs. A single by Feliz in the top of the second extend the lead for the Pioneers and sopmhore AJ Hunerberg doubled later driving in a run sealing the game for Indian River.

The Pioneers will head to Florida Southwestern Thursday, February 22, as they look to continue their win streak.
