Citrus Conference Play Opens Up with a Win

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River Baseball opens up Citrus Conference play with Daytona State on their home field and got the 19-3 victory. The Pioneers have now extended their winning streak to eight games.

Indian River jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Matthew Rubin's RBI single followed by an AJ Hunerburg homerun. Indian River's scoring continued as the 19 runs was a season high for the Pioneers. Brett Patten and Matthew Rubin added to their home run totals and Raul Feliz and Vincent Samuel both had a multi-hit game.

Angelo Smith, the sophomore from Coral Springs, FL, toed the rubber striking out eight over four and two thirds of an inning while Jace Trautner finished the game striking out the only batter he saw. The Pioneers pitching staff has been on a role as of late leading the state in walks allowed and top five in ERA.        

Pioneers will now travel to Daytona State for a double header.
