Pioneers Fall to Panthers on Opening Day

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River lost to Palm Beach State on Friday, January 26, 13-11. After a slow start the Pioneers fought there way back and took the lead in the fifth inning but ultimately lost the back and forth battle with the Panthers on opening day.

CJ Hanson, the University of Central Florida signee, got the nod for his second straight opening day start of his career. Hanson allowed three hits and three runs over four innings of work. The Pioneers tallied 14 hits in the game. Diego Alana and Maikol Lucena each collected three hits.

There was a lot of first for some Pioneers has freshman Brett Patten, Maikol Lucena, Jake Weatherspoon, Jason Lashley, Chris Knier, and Andris Barroso all saw action in there first career college game.

The Pioneers will be heading to Bradenton for the weekend of three games in a round robin format.
