Pioneers Split with Daytona

Pioneers Split with Daytona

Both teams proved to be road warriors as the Pioneers took Game 1 in Daytona on Friday 10-0 and lost Saturday at home 8-1. The big story from Game 1 was the lights out pitching performance turned in by Andres Fernandez. Fernandez started the game by striking out the first seven batters he faced. He totaled eleven strike outs through the first four innings of play before leaving the game after seven scoreless innings with twelve punch outs. For the offense, the third inning was explosive. The Pioneers plated eight runs which proved to be plenty of support for Fernandez as he costed. Blake Ebo continues to heat up adding a 3-4 performance with two 2b's to his resume.

Game 2 proved a different story for the Pioneers. George Helbig took the mound for Indian River following his complete game against Seminole and didn't fare as well. After trading runs in the 2nd inning the Falcons jumped to a lead in the 3rd and never looked back. A couple of HR's helped the scoring and it proved to be a good day for the Falcons. Bright spots for the Pioneers were Oberst and Gilmore's two hit days. The Pioneers failed to get a hit with runners in scoring position or an extra base hit to help bolster a comeback. The Pioneers return Monday for a home game against ASA at 2pm
