The River Fights Back for Epic Five-Set Win Over #19 Lake-Sumter
FORT PIERCE, FL — The River Volleyball team delivered one of their most resilient performances of the season Saturday afternoon, storming back to defeat Lake-Sumter State College in a five-set thriller (25-23, 19-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-13).
The River opened strong, taking the first set 25-23 behind aggressive serving and balanced offense. Lake-Sumter responded in sets two and three, capitalizing on momentum shifts and defensive errors to grab control of the match with back-to-back 25-19 wins.
Down 1–2 in the match and facing elimination, The River showed tremendous fight in the fourth set. Trailing 17-24, they mounted an incredible nine-point run to stun the Lakehawks 26-24 and force a deciding fifth.
The final set mirrored the intensity of the entire match — a back-and-forth battle filled with grit and energy. The River stayed composed down the stretch, securing the win 15-13 and completing the comeback in front of their home crowd.
