River Falls to #4 Ranked Bucs

River Falls to #4 Ranked Bucs

This past Thursday the Indian River Volleyball team would host their 4th conference match of the season against powerhouse Florida Southwestern. The Bucs are currently ranked 4th in the nation.

The River would enter this game with a record of 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The opening of the game could be felt with all of the anticipation and energy surrounding the court. The River upset Florida Southwestern in the final regular season game of the year in the Spring of 2021 and the Buccaneers were looking for revenge. The first set would be very contested from the first point, with more than 15 ties throughout the game. The River would lead the majority of the set all the way to 24-23, but they would be unable to finish as the Buccaneers rallied back and took the first set 26-24. The River was not done fighting though as they would battle hard through the second set, and it was another close game that also unfortunately fell the way of FSW with a final score of 25-19. The Buccaneers had the momentum and really revved up the gas in set 3. They would go on to win the match in 3 with a final score of 25-14.

The River was led by top performer freshmen Outside Hitter Greta Klotz who lead the team with 11 Kills.  Sophomore Right Side Mallory Roney lead the team defensively with 16 Digs and served up 3 aces on the night. Sophomore Setter Bella Rae had 21 assists on the night.

This loss drops the River to 2-2 in conference play and their next match is this weekend at home against Sante Fe College at 2PM.
