Erwin and Henry Named to Bobcat Invitational All-Tournament Team

 

The Indian River State Women's volleyball team had a successful trip to the west coast of Florida this past weekend, finishing their tournament with a 3-1 record and improving their overall record to 7-5 for the season.

 

The Pioneers defeated Catawba Valley Community College 3-2 (25-15, 25-21, 25-27, 24-26, 15-12) in a tightly contested 5 setter. They swept St. John's River State College (25-16, 25-10, 25-20); and  overcame Lake Sumter State College 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 27-25, 25-20). IRSC dropped their only match in a hard-fought 5 set contest in which it was anyone's game.

  

The Pioneers' offense for the tournament was led by Freshman Outside Hitter Ayannah Henry, who led the team in kills in all but one match of the tournament, finishing with 57 kills. Sophomore Opposite Hitter Lindsay Glyn put away 39 kills, Sophomore Outside Hitter Jenna Erwin contributed 35 winners, while Sophomore Outside Hitter McKenna Tyson chipped in 27 of her own, leading the team with 14 kills against Pasco Hernando.

 

  

Both Freshman Setters Jada Bivins and Erin Ergle finished with an identical 74 assists for the weekend.

 

  

Defensively, Rebecca Sills continued her stellar play at the libero position, recording 85 digs for the tournament, including 26 against Lake Sumter. Henry dug 40 attacks, while Bivins defended 36 and Erwin chipped in 32.

 

   

The Pioneers will face State College of Florida Manate this upcoming Friday in Sarasota.
