Women’s Basketball Streak Ends at Eight

Thursday evening in Fort Myers, Indian River State College traveled to Florida Southwestern for the final round matchup in Southern Conference play. In the two previous matchups, Indian River won both. The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 run in the first quarter before FSW fought back to defeat IRSC 78-75.

The Pioneers struggled to control the boards, getting outrebound 52-27. "We had multiple chances to win late in the game but we struggled to convert. I felt like we did not have a great defensive showing in the second half, giving up 31 points in the third is not like us. We will go back, watch film and improve on our mistakes" Coach Robinson noted.

Freshmen Jasmine Peaks led the Pioneers in scoring with 25 points, three rebounds and three assists. Shomari Phillips added 20 points and three rebounds. Tavi Habib scored 17 points.

The Pioneers are currently 6-1 in Southern Conference play, 23-4 overall. The Pioneers last home game will be Thursday February 16th at 5:30pm against Miami Dade.
