Women’s Basketball Defeats Miami Dade on the Road

Wednesday afternoon in Miami, Indian River State College defeated Miami Dade 96-67. The Pioneers jumped out to a 17 – 0 run in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Miami Dade responded outscoring the Pioneers 21-15, bringing it within 6 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Pioneers woke up outscoring the Sharks 37 – 14 extending their lead to 30 points going into the fourth. "Overall, I am proud of the way we started the game, we came out getting the stops we needed. We had some mistakes in the second half which we will correct in film. I believe We are starting to gel at the right time, as we prepare for post season play" Coach Robinson noted.

Sophomore wing Tavi Habib had a season high 30 points and six rebounds. Habib shot an impressive 10 – 16 from the field, 8-8 from the free-throw line. Rapuluchi Ngorka collected her 17^th consecutive double double of the season scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Claire Simmons added 11 points, four assist and two rebounds.

With the win the Pioneers are 22-3, 5-0 in Southern Conference play. Next game will be Saturday February 4^th against Hillsborough to close out the second round of conference.
