Women’s Basketball Defeats Miami Dade on the Road

Wednesday afternoon in Miami, Indian River State College defeated Miami Dade 96-67. The Pioneers jumped out to a 17 – 0 run in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Miami Dade responded outscoring the Pioneers 21-15, bringing it within 6 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Pioneers woke up outscoring the Sharks 37 – 14 extending their lead to 30 points going into the fourth. "Overall, I am proud of the way we started the game, we came out getting the stops we needed. We had some mistakes in the second half which we will correct in film. I believe We are starting to gel at the right time, as we prepare for post season play" Coach Robinson noted.

Sophomore wing Tavi Habib had a season high 30 points and six rebounds. Habib shot an impressive 10 – 16 from the field, 8-8 from the free-throw line. Rapuluchi Ngorka collected her 17th consecutive double double of the season scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Claire Simmons added 11 points, four assist and two rebounds.

With the win the Pioneers are 22-3, 5-0 in Southern Conference play. Next game will be Saturday February 4th against Hillsborough to close out the second round of conference.
