Pioneers Earn First Conference Win at FSW

Saturday afternoon, Indian River women's basketball traveled to Fort Myer's to play Florida Southwestern in a southern conference showdown.  Early in the contest the Pioneers exchange buckets before defeating FSW 70-53. For the first time ever, Indian River defeated FSW on their home court.

In the first quarter, the Pioneers took a four-point lead and never looked back. The Pioneers had four players in double digits, Freshmen Jasmine Peaks led the River in scoring with 15 points, four assists and three rebounds. Tavi Habib added 14 points and nine rebounds, Shomari Phillips scored 14 points and three rebounds. Rapuluchi Ngorka 13 points and career high 20 rebounds.

"I thought we came out and defended the way we're suppose to which allowed us to get going on the offensive end. I am proud of the way we played for 40 minutes and how we met our defensive goals" Coach Robinson mentioned.

With the win, the Pioneers are 1-0 in southern conference play and 16-3 overall. The Pioneers will be back in action Wednesday at Daytona State in a non-conference matchup.
