Women’s Basketball Win Both Games at Holiday Classic

Friday evening in Fort Pierce, Indian River host their annual IRSC Holiday Classic against Bishop State and Wayne County. The Pioneers win streak extended to six after defeating Bishop 71-53 and Wayne County 104-41.

In the Win against Bishop the Pioneers had four players in double digits, Tavi Habib led all scorers with 14 points and eight rebounds. Rapuluchi Ngorka added 11 points and 15 rebounds. Shomari Phillips added 11 points and six rebounds. Fresh shooting guard Kailyn Peters contributed 11 points.

Coach Robinson mentioned "our defensive efforts in the first quarter is what help the pioneers earn their 12th victory of the season. We pride ourselves on getting single digit quarters and we did that in the first 10 minutes of the game."

In the second game against Wayne County Indian River defeated the Wildcats 104-41. The Pioneers put on another defensive game only allowing 17 points in the first half. The Pioneers also had five players in double digits, freshmen Shooting guard Makala Torrence scored a career high of 29 points hitting a program high of 9 threes. Rapuluchi Ngorka continued to make her presence known scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds. Claire Simmons contributed her first double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tavi Habib also added 10 points, 4 rebounds and five assists.

With the two wins, the Pioneers head into holiday break 13-2, currently ranked 19th in the nation.
