Despite Slow Start IRSC Women’s Basketball Defeated HCC On The Road

Saturday afternoon in Tampa, Indian River State College women's basketball travel to Tampa to compete against Hillsborough Community College in the second round of conference play. In the first matchup the River beat HCC 93 – 60 which could be the reason for the slow start. "We started the game off too slow, lacking the sense of urgency to get it done on both ends of the floor" Coach Robinson noted. The Hawks jumped out to a 7 – 0 led before Maryanne Logsdon made a 3 pointer to get the River on the scoreboard.

After going back in forth throughout the first half, the River suffered a 11-point deficit at halftime. In the second half the River fought back outscoring HCC 45 – 30, earning their fourth conference win.  

The River had four players in double digits, Freshmen Tavi Habib led the River in scoring contributing 18 points and 11 rebounds, Breanna Campbell added 16 points, eight rebounds, five assist and three steals. Shomari Phillips tallied 13 points and Maryanne Logsdon added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

With the win, the River is 14 – 7 on the season and 3 – 1 in conference play. Their next game is Wednesday January 26th against DME Post Grad
