IRSC Women Wins Conference Opener

Wednesday Evening in Fort Pierce, Indian River State College Women's Basketball team open conference play against Hillsborough Community College. The Pioneers jumped out on top 15 – 2 lead forcing the Hawks to call a time out. The Pioneers led early in the contest and never looked back, outscoring the Hawks 93 – 60.

The Pioneers had four players to score double digits, Tavi Habib led all scorers with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Aniyah Jenkins added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Maryanne Logsdon added 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Freshmen shooting guard Shomari Phillips came off the bench contributing 12 points and three rebounds.

"I am proud of our efforts tonight, we're always preaching defense and I thought we defended at a high-level holding HCC to 60 points. I believe when we lock in defensively our offense will take care of itself" Coach Robinson noted.

With the win the Pioneers are 11 – 6 on the season and 1 – 0 in conference play. The Pioneers will be back in action Wednesday at home against Nationally Ranked FSW at 5:30pm.
