Pioneers Open the season with Win over FSCJ

IRSC women's basketball program kicked off their 2021 – 2022 season on the road at Florida State College of Jacksonville. The River leaned on their size advantage in a 66 – 53 victory, out-scoring the Bluewave 13 – 5 in the opening quarter. Four individuals reached double figures in scoring, led by Sophomore Forward Aniyah Jenkins who tallied 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

The River paint presence was the key, scoring 36 of their 66 points in the paint.  Coach Robinson noted "we were able to use our defense to get going offensively which helped create easily scoring opportunities." The Pioneers forced FSCJ to turn the ball over 21 times which allowed the River to led throughout the contest.

Freshmen Tavi Habib recorded her first double double scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Freshmen Shomari Phillips added 10 points, two rebounds and two steals. Veteran point guard Maryanne Logsdon contributed 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Pioneers will be back in action this weekend competing in Florida Juco Shootout at Eastern Florida State College on Friday against Santa Fe and Saturday against Eastern.
