IRSC Women's Basketball Sweeps Broward

Wednesday evening in Fort Pierce, Indian River State College women's basketball program faced off against Broward in a key conference matchup. In what seem to be a competitive matchup in the first quarter, IRSC pulled out the victory with a 99 – 67 win.

At the start of tonight's contest The River honored six sophomores for their hard work and commitment to Indian River State College. The sophomores who were honored was: Leah Dunn from Longwood, FL, Loni Sales from Greenville, South Carolina, Je'Nya Wilder from Macon, Georgia, Emprest Muhammad from Stockbridge, Georgia, Shanice Gordon from Port Saint Lucie and Marnicha Prudent from Fort Lauderdale. "It's been a true pleasure to coach each one of these student athletes this season, they've laid the foundation for our program on and off the court. Most importantly each of these ladies will be graduating at the end of the year, Coach Robinson noted."

The River had four players in double digits, Sophomore Loni Sales led all scorers with a season high of 33 points, seven rebounds and eight assist, Jaqarra Phillips added 18 points, Emprest Muhammad contributed 11 points, three assist and two steals and Je'Nya Wilder added 11, eight rebounds and three assist and two steals.

With the win against Broward, IRSC is currently one win away from Region 8 state Tournament berth, the deciding game will be played Saturday afternoon at Miami Dade College. "It's an exciting time for us, having a program bring in 14 new players with only 1 returner says a lot about the daily grind. We've had some great wins and bad loses through it all we continued to work. I am extremely proud of this team, coach Robinson mentioned."
