IRSC Women’s Basketball Suffers Heartbreak Lose to Palm Beach

Wednesday evening Indian River State College hosted Palm Beach State College in a key conference matchup. Palm Beach State is looking to clinch Southern Conference title and Indian River is hoping to secure second place. In what seem to be a good matchup Palm Beach beat the River in a heart break fashion 69-67. Throughout the entire game there were several lead changes, Palm Beach went up by 10 points in the third quarter but the River fought back, going into the fourth quarter down five points. The River fought hard but couldn't close out the game, with 0.1 reminding on the game clock the River was down 3 points. Freshmen Breanna Campbell was fouled while shooting a 3 but couldn't converted all three free throws.

"Tonight we played we a lot of heart, to have a chance to defeat the number 1 team in the southern conference at our home was big for us. We couldn't ask for a better situation, down the stretch we didn't get the defensive stops we need to finish the game. As a young team we will continue to learn and grow, Coach Robinson noted."

The Pioneers had four players in double digits Freshmen Breanna Campbell led the River with 13 points, Akiyonna Joiner and Loni Sales contributed 12 apiece and sophomore Marnicha Prudent added 10 points.

With this loss the River is currently tied with Miami Dade for second place in the Southern Conference. "I am proud to be in the talk for clinching a birth in the Region 8 tournament, we have a big task in fron of us and I am excited to complete it with this team, mentioned Coach Robinson."

IRSC women's basketball will be back in action Saturday February 15th against ASA Miami at 2pm.
