IRSC women’s basketball win on the road

Saturday afternoon in Davie FL, Indian River State College beat Broward College 72-61. In the first half, Indian River jumped out to an early lead going into halftime 43 – 33 and never looked back. In the third quarter, the River held the Seahawks to 9 points by forcing 23 turnovers. Pioneers had all cylinders clicking on the defensive and offensive end. IRSC scored 23 points off Broward turnovers and 14 points off second chance points.

Coach Robinson mentioned "today we competed a full game after going up big in the third quarter we was able to sustain Broward runs and finish the game. I am definitely proud of how we executed and defend today, the challenge was to not allow Broward to comeback in the game and today I believe we did that."

The River leading scorers was Leah Dunn who contributed 16 points, Freshmen Akiyonna Joiner and Jaqarra Phillips added 11 points apiece and Breanna Campbell added 10 points and seven rebounds.

With this win, the River is currently in second place in the Southern Conference with an overall record of 14-11. The Pioneers next home game is Wednesday February 5 against Miami Dade at 5:30pm.
