IRSC Women’s basketball Splits opening weekend

Indian River State College women's basketball team hosted a tip-off classic against Florida State College of Jacksonville and Eastern State Florida College. Indian River earned their first win of the season against FSCJ 86 – 58. Coach Robinson noted, "I was extremely proud of how we came out after half time, FSCJ went on a run to close the game into 5 but we stayed locked into the game plan and eventually pulled away."

The River women's basketball had four players in double digits sophomore Loni Sales lead the pack with 24 while freshmen trio Jaqarra Phillips scored 13, Breanna Campbell added 11 and Chakoi Mitchell 11. "It was great feeling to see some of our freshmen step up big in their first official college game Coach Robinson mentioned."

In the second contest, The River let one slip away against the number 7th team in the state Eastern Florida State College. After going into halftime leading by five IRSC women's basketball lost 60 – 69.

"In the second half we missed a lot of shots which caused for Eastern to get out and run, this game will definitely be a learning experience and we will use it to get better."

Freshmen Jaqarra Phillips led the River in scoring with 24 points. Indian River Women's Basketball will be back in action November 6 against College of Central Florida.
