Indian River Exits Region 8 Final In Heartbreaking Fashion

Indian River (National Rank 11) lost it's opening game on Friday versus College of Central Florida, but battled back with three consecutive victories at the State and Region 8 Tournament in Clermont, FL.

The Pioneers qualified as the number 2 seed in The Southern Conference and finished the regular season on an eight game winning streak. Victories over Hillsborough (4-2), Seminole State (6-2) and Pensacola State (8-4) led the team to the final game of the NJCAA Division 1 South Atlantic District B Championship. IRSC faced off against (#6) Nationally ranked Florida Northwest State and led 6-2 in the sixth.

After stellar performances throughout the game on both sides of the ball, and with two innings to go, FNW mounted a fierce comeback in the sixth and seventh innings to win 7-6 and snatch the title from IRSC.

The loss unfortunately prevented a trip to the National Tournament in Oxford, Alabama and ended the Pioneers impressive season. Indian River finishes 47-12 and a third place state finish.
