Indian River Softball Goes 5 - 1

Indian River State College's women's softball team opened the 2022 season winning five of six games this past weekend in the Adidas Kickoff Tournament in Clearwater.

In the opening game of the season IRSC defeated Marshalltown on Iowa 2-1.

Both teams' pitchers were strong in the circle on Friday.  IRSC's starting pitcher Taylor Barrett went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 12.

Freshman shortstop went 2-3 at the plate. Rowland's blasted a homerun in the bottom of the third inning propelling the Pioneers to a 2-1 win.

IRSC 13 South Georgia 3

In game 2 on Friday against South Georgia State College IRSC secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the seventh inning. Kyla KnierKelsey GanciBridgett DunhamJaden Williamson, and Daija Torchia all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

IRSC fired up the offense in the second inning, when Cassidy Crump singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Taylor Wroten earned the victory on the rubber for IRSC Pioneers. The righthander surrendered zero runs on zero hits over six innings, striking out six. Dominique Prevette threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Pioneers had 16 hits in the game. DunhamGanciWrotenNicolette Luzzi, and Maeghan Branche all managed multiple hits for IRSC PioneersDunham led IRSC Pioneers with three hits.

IRSC 10 East Georgia 1

 IRSC got the offense going early, winning big over East Georgia 10-1 on Saturday.

Jaden Williamson led the Pioneers to victory in the circle. The pitcher went five innings, allowing no earned runs, three hits, striking out five and walking one.

 IRSC socked two home runs on the day. Kat Rhoden and Nikki Luzzi both hit homeruns in the second inning.

The Pioneers racked up 11 hits on the day.  Luzzi and Rhoden had two hits each  to lead Pioneers on Offense.

Pensacola 5 IRSC 3

IRSC lost the lead late in a 5-3 defeat to Pensacola on Saturday. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, PSC scored two runs to take the lead.

IRSC Pioneers lost despite out-hitting Pensacola six to five.

Taylor Barrett took the loss for IRSC Pioneers. The righthander surrendered five runs on four hits over five innings, striking out seven.

IRSC Pioneers tallied one home run on the day. Nicolette Luzzi had a long ball in the seventh inning.

Maeghan BrancheLuzziTaylor WrotenDaija TorchiaCassidy Crump, and Raelyn Rowland all had one hit to lead Pioneers offense.

IRSC 10 Georgia Highlands 2

IRSC Pioneers nabbed the lead late in the game in a 10-2 victory over Georgia Highlands on Sunday. The game was tied at two with the Pioneers batting in the bottom of the fourth when Jaden Williamson was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

The Pioneers secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fourth inning. The offense in the inning was led by Kat RhodenCassidy CrumpWilliamson, and Raelyn Rowland, who all drove in runs.

Taylor Wroten was the winning pitcher for IRSC PioneersWroten surrendered two runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one.

Jaden Williamson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead IRSC in hits. 

IRSC 10 Parkland 0

IRSC defeated Parkland 18-0 in the teams last game of the tournament on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Devan Ryan induced a groundout to finish off the game.

Jaden Williamson led IRSC to victory by driving in five runs. Williamson went 3-for-5 at the plate. 

IRSC got things started in the first inning. Williamson singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

The Pioneers put up six runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Bridgett Dunham and Williamson and a home run by Kiersee McLean.

Williamson pitched IRSC to victory. The righty went three innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking zero. Ryan threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

IRSC smacked two home runs on the day. Williamson had a homer in the third inning. McLean put one out in the fourth inning.

The Pioneers tallied 13 hits in the game. Williamson and Dunham each had multiple hits.  Williamson led the team with three hits in five at bats. 

The 5-1 Pioneers will travel to Ft. Myers on Friday to play in the Florida Southwestern Tournament.  The Pioneers will take on Southern Idaho and Louisburg College on Friday.  On Saturday, the Pioneers will play Salt Lake City and St. Thomas University.
